The Respiratory System free essay sample

What Makes Your Respiratory System Important For Living? The respiratory system the organ system made of the nose, mouth, trachea, bronchi and lungs; the system that provides oxygen for the body and allows carbon dioxide to leave the body. And, the average person breathes fifteen times a minute and 10000 L of air in out of their lungs a day. Oxygen is essential for living since it has many different uses in the human body, such as energy, movement and repair. The lungs work in very close collaboration with the circulatory system as well. The organs beside the lungs in the respiratory system are the nasal cavity (nose) you can breath from here through your nostrils, mouth is another organ you can breath from. Next, the trachea is the organ that closes when you are swallowing but opens to let air into your lungs, bronchi is the organ that leads the air from your trachea into to two paths into two different lungs that look like branches and the branches get smaller into the bronchioles. We will write a custom essay sample on The Respiratory System or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The trachea (windpipe) is reinforced with cartilage rings which are flexible and are strong and are made up of specialized cells. Â  Then, the bronchioles split the air again to ensure equal amount of air into the small little buds at the end called alveoli. After, the alveoli have the air they start the ‘Gas Exchange’ process in which the oxygen is diffused into the bloodstream in the lungs. Carbon Dioxide leaves the same way from the blood on the way back. Now, the way this is possible is by the alveoli are wrapped around by capillaries which are small pipes that carry blood around the body to deliver oxygen to your organs, muscles and tissues. And, the exchange happens by the following diagram. As you can see the Carbon Dioxide leaves first and then the blood cells get the oxygen cells right after to be delivered around the body. Second, is the actual process of breathing which happens by the muscles around your lungs, otherwise your lungs are just big sacs of air, it’s the muscles that do all the work. The muscles are located at your rib cage and your diaphragm which is a big sheet of muscle you expand and contract to inhale and exhale air. When your diaphragm relaxes, air comes in your lungs but, when your diaphragm expands it exhales air from your lungs. The third point of this selection is the things that can affect your lungs in a bad way like diseases and cancer. The diseases would be Tuberculosis (TB) is one of them, it gets in when you breathe and the symptoms are fever, cough, tiredness, weight loss, and chest pain. If left untreated it can be fatal by the bacteria spreading to your nervous system and bones. And when the infection spreads and just starts to attack the nervous system and bones it kills people due to the amount of damage already done to the respiratory system. SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is another big disease that attacks the respiratory system and the symptoms are flulike that includes high fever, shortness of breath, dry cough, sore throat, headache, muscle pain and exhaustion. This disease is also just as fatal and spreads fast. As you can see, the respiratory system is a massive part of the human body’s function by being essential to living, like supplying oxygen to the organs, muscles, and tissues but can be affected which threatens our lives and that’s why it’s important.
